We are evaluating whether Watsonville is a practical location for recovery housing that keeps residents connected to Santa Cruz County services, employment, treatment, transportation, and community-based recovery supports.

How often are recovery-ready adults unable to find appropriate sober/recovery housing in Santa Cruz County? - Who is hardest to place?
Which populations, stages of recovery, or circumstances create the greatest placement difficulty? - Is Watsonville the right geography?
Would Watsonville work for treatment access, transportation, employment, probation/reentry obligations, and family/community connections? - What does affordability look like?
What rates are residents or funding programs realistically able to support for quality recovery housing? - What funding or contracting paths exist?
Are there county, BHSA, SUBG, reentry, housing, grant, voucher, room-and-board, or other funding mechanisms relevant to recovery residences? - How would referrals work?
What would a new operator need to do to become an approved referral option, vendor, contractor, or community partner?
Proposed Operating Concept
Recovery housing — not on-site clinical treatment.
The concept under evaluation is a structured shared-living environment for adults committed to maintaining sobriety. The housing operation would focus on a stable residence, clear expectations, peer accountability, personal responsibility, and connection to outside recovery resources.
Clinical treatment, detoxification, or counseling would not be provided on-site as part of the housing operation. Residents would continue using appropriate community providers and public or private services.
